Teddy Carl Bowers passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home in Brazoria, Texas on September 5th, 2024. Teddy was born in Coleman, Texas on November 2nd, 1951. He is preceded in death by his parents, Jesse Foster Bowers Jr. and Cherry June Bowers and his youngest brother Kim Bowers.
Teddy is survived by his wife Susan Slade Bowers, his daughter Jessica Anne Bilnoski and her husband Nathan, his son Teddy Ryan Bowers and his wife Allison, his grandchildren Lauren, Trey, Lyndsey, Lydia and Judith; his brothers Gary and his wife Janice, Bobby and his wife Joy, Dennis and his wife Nadia and his sister in law Kimberly Bowers, as well as his many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Teddy attended different schools in Texas as his family moved about because his Dad worked in the oilfield. His longest time in any one place was in Carlsbad New Mexico as his Dad worked in the potash mines there. He graduated from Carlsbad High School in 1970 and moved to Freeport, TX in 1971 following his family as his Dad found work at Dow.
Ted met Susan at Brazosport College in January of 1972 and got married later that year on October 21st. Together they eventually made their home in Pasadena, TX. Ted and Susan were active at Watters Rd. Church of Christ for many years. Ted served as a deacon and taught the junior high Sunday school class. After moving to Red Rock, TX he was a Building Official for the city of Bastrop Texas for 15 years until his retirement. During this time, he served as a deacon and elder at Bastrop Church of Christ until he moved back to Brazoria in 2017 to be near his children and grandchildren. In the latter years Ted and Susan were members of the First Baptist Church of Brazoria until his passing.
Ted’s greatest joy was being a father and grandfather. He was always present for his two children. He coached sports, helped with homework, taught them to drive, encouraged them and celebrated their accomplishments.
PawPaw adored his 5 grandchildren. He took them fishing, attended their sporting events, dance recitals, birthday parties, picked them up from school, babysat, anything to spend more time with them. He loved camping, telling stories and cooking (his grandkids favorite was his Goulash).
Ted was a caring man of faith with integrity, strength and a leader. He loved all people and never met a stranger. He loved his family and his brothers were especially a priority throughout his life. He loved to laugh and loved the Houston Astros so much so, that he worked for 6 years in guest services so he could be there for all their home games. His love, encouragement, valuable insights, and sense of humor will be missed. He loved the Lord with all his heart and lived his life unselfishly loving and serving others.
Relatives and friends are invited to Teddy’s viewing on Monday, September 9, 2024 at 9:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Brazoria. Funeral service to begin at 10:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Gulf Prairie Cemetery.
