Thomas Gerald Baker, a devoted family man, passed away on October 30, 2023, at Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston, TX. He was born on November 15, 1942, in Teague, TX, to the late Rueben Henderson Baker and Neva Mae Guyton Baker.
Thomas had an impressive career spanning over three decades at Dow Chemical where he worked as a supervisor. His dedication and hard work were evident throughout his 32 years of service. He always led by example and inspired those around him with his professionalism and expertise.
In addition to his successful career, Thomas served his country with pride in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. His honorable discharge is a testament to his commitment and bravery. Thomas valued his military service deeply and carried the lessons he learned during that time throughout his life.
Outside of work, Thomas had several hobbies and interests that brought him joy. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, finding solace in the great outdoors. Camping trips and tending to his garden were among his favorite pastimes. However, nothing brought him more happiness than spending quality time with his family.
Thomas was a loving father to his two daughters, the late Sara Margaret Baker Keenom and Neva Gayle Jackson. Neva fondly remembers her father as not only her parent but also her best friend. She stated she was truly blessed and honored to be his daughter, a Baker! Her and her daddy would always say, “Us Baker’s are pretty tough.” They shared countless memories together while hunting and fishing, bonding over their shared passion. Neva stated that her dad was her best friend.
One person who held a special place in Thomas's heart was his beloved granddaughter, Bryanne Jackson. They spent hours upon hours together swimming in the pool; their laughter echoing through every corner of the backyard. The bond they shared was unbreakable.
Thomas's wife of 47 years, Margaret Gayle Baker, stood by his side through thick and thin. Their love for each other knew no bounds, providing strength and support throughout their journey together.
In addition to Margaret and Neva, Thomas is survived by his son-in-law, Kyle Jackson, who Thomas truly thought the world of. He was also a proud grandfather to Austyn Keenom, who will forever carry the lessons and love that Thomas imparted upon him. He is also survived by Austyn’s father Daniel Keenom.
Thomas leaves behind his brother, Kenneth Baker, and sister-in-law, Bump, who were not only family but also lifelong friends. Their bond was rooted in shared experiences and endless support.
