Velesta Ramby

Velesta Mae Ramby, 101, of Brazoria passed away in Angleton on Aug. 7, 2016. She was born in Falls County, Texas to Joe Willie and Angeline Fillip on Dec. 26, 1914. She was raised in Marlin, Texas and graduated from Marlin High School in 1932. She married Kent Ramby in November of 1934 in Marlin. The Ramby's moved to Brazoria in 1941 where Velesta worked at Bowman's Dry Goods for 14 years. She also performed financial duties for Brazoria First Assembly from 1960 until 1974. She and her husband, Kent always had a large garden. She enjoyed canning and cooking with fresh vegetables. She was an excellent seamstress, making clothes for herself, her granddaughter and other ladies in town. Velesta was a loving and caring wife, mother and grandmother. She especially enjoyed her great grandchildren when they lived near her.

Funeral services will be held 10:00am on Wed. Aug. 10, 2016 at Baker Funeral Home in West Columbia with B.F. Flowers officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery in Marlin at 4 pm. Visitation will be 1 hour before service time.

Left to cherish her memory is her son, Kenneth Wayne Ramby & wife, Alice; brother, Eugene Fillip; grandchildren, Tara Keily and Dwayne Ramby; great grandchildren, Cody, Andrea & Brandon Schurch; great great grandchild, Rowan Schurch. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Kent T. Ramby; and brothers, George & Woodrow Fillip.
